1st-4th Centuries - Evidence of Roman Settlement
450-1066 - Evidence of Saxon Village
Pre 1066 - Before the Norman invasion Lutterworth was owned by Earl Ralph of Hereford, nephew of Edward the Confessor
1086 - Lutterworth is mentioned in the Domesday Book
1170 - St Mary's Church built
1214 - Lutterworth granted its market charter by King John
1374 - John Wycliffe
John Wycliffe spent the last three years of his life in exile at Lutterworth.
During his time here and assisted by his followers including Nicholas of Hereford, John Horn and John Purvey, he completed the first translation of the bible from Latin into English in 1383.
1445 - The Greys of Groby become the owners of the Manor of Lutterworth
1509 - Churchgate School opens
1630 - Lutterworth Grammer School founded
1698 - The Clockmakers of Lutterworth
The Corrall family were famous Lutterworth clockmakers in the 18th and 19th centuries. E.J.Haswell was equally well-known in the 20th C.

1733 - Sherrier School opens
1787 - Stage Coaches first travel through Lutterworth
1843 - Lutterworth Police Station
Lutterworth Police Station was built in 1843 on the junction of Leicester Road and Gilmorton Road at a cost of £731. It is believed to be the first purpose built Police Station and Magistrates’ Court in the country, and it had two cells, a walled yard, office and a Superintendent’s house,
1899 - Lutterworth Railway Station
Lutterworth Railway Station, owned by Great Central Railway, opened on 15th March 1899 and was located at the bottom of Station Road (previously Ely Lane).
We are proud to have a working N gauge model of Lutterworth Railway Station as it would have been in its prime.
1899 - Fielding Palmer Cottage Hospital is established
1940 - The Merlin Engine
Lutterworth Museum has a Merlin Engine from a Mk 1 Hurricane that was shot down in 1940. The engine is on permanent display, and we can tell you its story
1969 - Lutterworth Railway closes as part of Beeching cuts
2013 - Lutterworth Police Station closes - at the time it was the oldest operational police station in the country
